23 - House of the Fountains (back area)

At this moment, the visitor is in the back area of the House of the Fountain. Here you can see, to your right, the U-shaped tank that surrounded the large dining room (triclinium). The presence of a reflecting pool in this location would have served to create a scenographical effect, intended to beautify the space, and provide some coolness to the triclinium, which opened onto it through a large window. In front, bordering the triclinium, was the pantry. To the left, there is a compartment with a floor richly decorated by a large mosaic panel, whose central medallion represents a hunting scene. On the walls, traces of the original painting (fresco) and the fluted pilasters, finished in stucco, can be observed. This decorative richness gave a truly sumptuous aspect to the room, which would have served as a private living space for the owners of the house.
