Neither ancient sources nor the persistence of techniques and tool forms are sufficient to allow all the instruments found to be assigned to precise professions. Many of them were used indiscriminately to work different materials and were common to several crafts: the compass, tongs, hammer, and chisel.
Molds and crucibles attest to the local production of a variety of objects.
Glassware
It was under the Roman Empire that the art of glass was perfected and disseminated, thanks to the invention of glassblowing, which allowed faster, lighter production with a greater diversity of forms than glass worked as paste.
The modesty of the necessary tools - rods, tweezers, tongs, crucibles - and the non-specific nature of some of them make it difficult to locate glassmakers' workshops. However, the presence of pieces of raw glass and fragments of refractory clay covered on one side by solid glassy drips of various colors proves that glass objects were made in Conimbriga, at least from the end of the 1st century AD.
