Pottery production
Apart from the kilns, it is difficult to find other archaeological evidence of the activity of the fictiliarius. By looking at the marks and texts written in the still-fresh clay of roof tiles, bricks, and loom weights, we learn the names of owners and workers.
A triangular brick for the construction of a column tells us that the worker, from Maelo's workshop, fulfilled the number of bricks he was required to make each day.
Pottery
As happened with glass, the city imported many ceramics in every period to satisfy the taste of those who could afford quality, fashionable tableware. Here, however, through simple fragments, we draw attention to the types of pottery produced in the region, which represent, as expected, the largest volume of the materials discovered. These include pots, pans, and frying pans of various sizes, made from a local clay very rich in calcite; large jars and pots for storing food; pitchers, jugs, and cups for carrying and serving water; basins of various kinds; and an endless range of plates and small dishes, bowls and cups of every shape and size.
A fragment of a lamp mold and a few more decorated or elaborate pieces are evidence of specialized or occasional production.
