Metal vessels and hardware

Of the metal tableware, certainly as rich and numerous as the glass and ceramic tableware, no precious or richly crafted pieces have survived. This is partly because the necropolis, where valuable objects would have had a place and might have been preserved, has not come down to us; on the other hand, because such objects are protected and valued, passed down from generation to generation. Nor can we forget that the city died through the slow and calculated abandonment of its inhabitants.
